Increasing the Back Width from Across the Armholes – Option 3B
We continue to discuss options to correct a tight across-back from armhole to armhole.
We’ve seen that adding a center-back (CB) seam is a great correction if we’re happy with the back neck position and want to add a CB seam.
This pattern correction is an alternative to the previous one when you have the issue of the across-back being too tight and the back neckline too low. We will add a CB seam to help with the movement of the across-back area.
Steps to Increase Back Width – Option 3B
- Cut the Pattern Horizontally: If you feel like the across back area is tight, cut your pattern horizontally in the center back area.
- Tape and Measure: Tape and measure the amount you’ve opened.
- Adjust the Pattern: Come back to your pattern and cut the pattern horizontally in the same area.
- Open the CB Seam: Allow the pattern to open at the CB, giving a nice curvature to the CB seam.
This is a great solution when you need more movement in the across-back area and need to fix the back neckline position at the same time.
